“New Yorkers aren’t interested in Albany’s blame game, political posturing and campaign-style politics; they’re interested in results. Unfortunately, through his veto Governor Paterson has chosen to present himself as an obstacle to results.
“Scandal after scandal, the Joe Bruno Trial and Senate Coup have left the public disillusioned and disheartened. And like many New Yorkers, I’m fed up with the veil of secrecy that has blanketed Albany for far too long. The ethics reform bill, which passed with nearly unanimous bipartisan support, is the most serious attempt to address Albany’s culture of corruption that I’ve seen in my three years in office.
“While I agree that more work must be done to fully address ethics in Albany, striking down our reforms will not change state government but only protect the status quo. Sadly, the governor’s veto merely serves as a roadblock to reform.”
