SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Metro Mattress, Upstate New York’s largest mattress retailer, will open a new location in the Syracuse area the weekend of Aug. 1. The new store is located on Route 31 in Clay, N.Y. in front of Target, next to Fuccillo Kia of Clay and across from Lowe’s.

Over the past 34 years, the Syracuse-based retailer has become a local institution in several Upstate New York markets including Syracuse/Central New York (11 stores), Rochester (9 stores), Buffalo (7 stores), Albany (5 stores), Utica (2 stores) and the Southern Tier (2 stores).

Metro Mattress currently employees 160 people at its 36 locations, which includes the Clay store. In 2000, there were only nine Metro Mattress stores and approximately 40 employees.

The majority of the expansion began in the Syracuse, Rochester and Albany areas and then spread into the Buffalo area. In 2008, Metro Mattress moved its former headquarters and clearance center in Liverpool to a larger building on John Glenn Boulevard. The new Showroom & Regional Clearance Center includes 5,000 square feet of corporate offices and a 25,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art distribution center.
