(Elbridge, NY – Sept. 1, 2010) The New York State Police in Elbridge arrested Michael P. Kelly, 20, of 202 W. Main St. in Elbridge for two counts of Burglary.

Kelly broke into the Elbridge Diner on East Main Street in the village of Elbridge several times over a two week period in July of 2010, and stole cash.

In the early morning hours of Aug. 29 the State Police were called to a residence in the villag of Elbridge regarding a burglary complaint. The resident alleged that over the past couple of weeks he has noticed that various items, including a gas can, a pair of hedge trimmers and an electric chainsaw, were stolen from his attached garage. The resident had placed a new gas can containing gasoline and water on the work bench in the garage. The son of the resident was driving home at about 1a.m. and noticed the suspect’s vehicle leaving the neighborhood. They discovered the gas can was missing and called the State Police.

The vehicle was found by Troopers a short time later disabled on State Route 5 in Elbridge and the electric chainsaw was located in the basement of the suspect’s residence.

He was arraigned on one count of second-degree Burglary (Class “C” Felony) and one count of third-degree Burglary (Class “D” Felony) and lodged on $10,000 cash or $10,000 bond to reappear in the town of Elbridge Court on 09/08/10 at 5:00 PM.

(Elbridge, NY) Onondaga County Executive Joanne M. Mahoney and Parks Commissioner Bill Lansley were on hand when Mark Hettler, President of the Friends of Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery, officially accepted a donation of $11,006.73 today from Bass Pro Shops Operations Manager, Rob Barber.

“We started with a petition and after seeing the amount of interest from Central New Yorkers, we came up with a way to help even further,” said Barber. Since January, Bass Pro Shops has been collecting donations from customers as they cash out and from hot dog sales in the store. ”

The Friends are grateful for the continued support of Bass Pro, this donation will go a long way to continuing our mission of providing public programs at the Hatchery,” remarked Hettler. “As we move forward into the upcoming months, we will continue to support them through our donations programs here at Bass Pro Shops,” added Barber.

“I want to thank Bass Pro Shops for all the work they did in raising this money for the Hatchery,” said County Executive Joanie Mahoney. “The Friend’s of Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery have worked diligently and partnered with many groups to keep operations going. I look forward to a long partnership with the Friends and our local businesses to keep the Hatchery for Onondaga County.”

(Town of Elbridge, NY – Aug. 11, 2010) Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a fatal crash that claimed two lives.

At approximately 1:55 pm, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a fiery crash that occurred in front of the Dollar General store, located at 1160 Route 5 in Elbridge, involving a Casa Imports tractor trailer, operated by Kevin Lamay II (26), of Rome.

Lamay was traveling west on Route 5 when he approached traffic that was slow moving due to an accident that had occurred at approximately 1:30pm near the intersection of Route 5 and Sandbank Road. Lamay failed to stop and rear ended a 2009 Kia, operated by Ronald Mabb (68), of Elbridge, which immediately burst into flames. The Kia was subsequently forced into a pickup truck, also traveling west bound, operated by Michael Lockwood (31), of Wolcott, NY.

Sheriff’s Deputies assisting the New York State Police with traffic at the scene of a crash near the intersection of Route 5 and Sandbank Road, ran back to the heavily damaged Kia, which was fully engulfed in flames, and were unable to free Mabb and his passenger from the wreckage.

The Elbridge Fire Department responded and rescue crews pronounced both Mabb and his passenger dead on the scene.

Lockwood, was transported to Auburn Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and Lamay and his passenger/co-worker John Barringer (33) of West Winfield were not injured.

Members of the Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Team were called to the scene and will conduct a complete investigation and were forced to shut down all traffic between Halfway Road and Sandbank Road during the evening rush hour.

The name of Mabb’s passenger will be released once family notifications have been made.
