(Town of Clay, NY – May 19, 2010) Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a personal injury auto accident that occurred on Oswego Road.

At approximately 2:36pm, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Pier 57 Restaurant, located at 7376 Oswego Road where a SUV crashed into the building after rear ending another car. Witnesses told deputies that a 2005 Toyota Corolla, operated by Jigishaben Patel (32), of Maple View, NY, was traveling north on Oswego Road when she was rear ended by a the 1996 Nissan Pathfinder, operated by Clifton Reynolds (35), of 8406 Gaskin Road. The impact from the crash forced, Patel’s vehicle to travel approximately 50 yards before coming to a stop in the northbound lane, while Reynolds’ SUV traveled through the restaurant parking lot.

Reynolds’ SUV struck a parked car and began rolling several times before slamming into the restaurant’s front entrance.

Rescue crews from the Moyers Corners Fire Department responded to the scene and were forced to extricate Reynolds from the vehicle. Reynolds was transported to University Hospital for treatment of injuries reported to be non-life threatening.

No one inside the restaurant was injured and both Patel and her 5-year-old son Kush escaped without injury.

Sheriff’s deputies have charged Reynolds with common law driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated-drugs, unlawful possession of marijuana, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 2nd degree, imprudent speed, and driving left of the center line.

(Town of Clay, NY – April 10, 2010) Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that deputies are investigating a one-car crash that claimed the life of a Pennellville man.

Saturday night at approximately 11:15 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a single car crash that claimed the life of Brent Varney (21), of 680 County Route 10, lot 39. Deputies investigating the crash report that Varney
was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer and traveling north on Morgan Road when he apparently drifted into the southbound lane and then off the west side of the roadway before crashing into a utility pole at the intersection of Oak Orchard Road.

A passing mortorist discovered the heavily damaged SUV and immediately called for police. Rescue crews arriving at the scene raced to free Varney from the wreckage.

Varney sustained multiple injuries and was transported by ambulance to University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Members of the Sheriff’s Accident Invesigation Team were called to conduct a complete investigation and will rely on a final autopsy to help determine the cause of the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
